How many of you have an 850 that uses oil?

How low can the oil before causing engine damage?

 

176,000k, no oil usage here.

no idea about level sorry.
personally I wouldn't let it get below the 'low' mark at any time.

 

190K on ours and it uses "maybe" a half quart every 5000 miles.

 

110K and I use about 1/2 quart every 3K

Usually down about 2 to 3 quarts. I had a car yesterday that only had 1 quart in it and all was still fine.

 

I once drove from FL to NM (2400 miles or so) with almost no oil because the jiffy lube place cross threaded the oil plug. I brought it to a place in NM and they said it had about a quart left.

That being said, the manual I have for my 850 2.4L says to add oil when it gets to the "min" mark, which apparently is 1 quart low.

 

318k,I refill about 1/2 to 1 qt every 3k depending on how hard I drive it. The lifters clacking give fair warning in most cases.The sump pickup is close to the pan. As Tech has stated, I too have seen 1-2 qt in without problems.

 

My girlfriends took 4 quarts the other day ..........she's such a dipstick

 

Thanks for all the replies. I am not sure exactly how much mine uses, but I was just worried because it went low enough that it took a quart just to be able to see the oil on the level.
