Maximum wheel width and diameter?

Maximum wheel width and diameter?
I would like to get it right the first time. I am looking to upgrade the damaged wheels on my '95 GLT. I would like to get the largest diameter and widest wheel that would work without tire rubbing and/or mods to the bodywork or suspension. I also am not looking to put radical, super-low profile tires on the car. Can you all tell me what would safely work for me without any headaches? Thanks.

RE: Maximum wheel width and diameter?
Should I assumethat 17 X8 would definitely work w/o problems? That would really open up my selection range. FWIW I'm looking to get OEM Volvo rims and thereseems tobeA LOT to choose from. Right now I like the Pegasus model. So would 225/45-17's be what I should put on 17 x 8's?

RE: Maximum wheel width and diameter?
I have heard that the 225's are a little too wide. I am running 215's with no problem, but my wheels are 17 x 7.5 if I'm not mistaken. So the question is can you put 215 45 17's on an 17 x 8 wheel? If you don't get the answer here, call a tire place. I'm pretty sure you can with no problem. The actual size called for on the car with 17" wheels is 205 45 17.
