Glad to see one saved from the junkyard!
Some people really have no clue when it comes to maintenance and troubleshooting..."needs a new motor" lol it just needed a tuneup and IC hoses..
Did you find it on craigs?
Go to the junkyards and pull a set for yourself, took me ~$100 for relays and parts and numerous trips to the junkyards.

I have been to JY's lately got a set of fog lights from a v70 for 2.99 each. but havent got much luck finding the ones for the 850, also i will need to drill the bumber to do that, i've seen some 850's bumber with the shape of what it looks to be more easier to drill it cause it has the form but mine doesnt and is a T5 95. isnt supposed to have that? or it was just an option?

Look behind the front bumper you'll see an oval protrusion (guide) in the shape of a fog light. There is one on both sides.
I used a drill and a 1" wide drill bit to get the hole started, then took about an hour to use a razor blade to remove the excess plastic off to make a perfect oval. (A dremel works best, but I didn't feel like going and buying one.
Now if you don't have the shape already there then I would just jy a bumper that has them and switch it to your car.
Good luck.

Nice silver "puff" looks well maintained cosmetically. IT may still need a engine. You should do a compression check to be sure it dosn't. Also, read any codes that may be stored in the computers. With the engine warmed up, pull the dipstick out 1/4 way and shine a light across the opening and look for smoke. If you see any, do the flame trap ASAP, or risk it clogging up and blowing your seals, and or blowing the engine up.
On your V70 XC. The angle gear they are called (transfer case) go out left and right. If you remove the rear drive shaft you make it essentially front wheel drive, and can continue to drive it till the wheels fall off.

After you get the mileage, you can fix the odo.

what is the flame trap? im still learning about these cars i have no engine codes besides the o2 sensor being bad no lights on the dash at all. its lets out a black cloud of smoke when i start it sometimes an then the light comes on an shuts off after like 10min.

the light comes on for the o2 sensor? and the car shuts stall out. Disconnect the o2 sensor. You will get a code for it being disconnected, but it will eliminate the o2 sensor causing a stalling issue. IF it doesn't die on you after 10 minutes, o2 sensor is likely the problem with that issue. However, if it continues of stall after "10 minutes" you have a different issue going on.
A different issue may be the Mass Air Flow going haywire after the engine bay gets warmed up. Find the coolant temperature sensor and if you see any corrosion on the outside you should replace it.
The Flame Trap system is Volvo's version of the PCV system. On the 850s it consists of 2 parts the Flame Trap (oil trap) which is a black box located under the intake manifold attached to the engine block with hoses routing to it; as well as the flame trap valve located closest to the throttle body on the intake hose (located on the lower back side of the hose).
no it will not cause any issues with the rear end. the rear end and CV axles will just "free wheel" going down the road.
concerning the black smoke when you first start it. If that every time (engine hot or cold), or only after it has sat overnight?
