My heat/AC won't work

My heat/AC won't work
I am in need of some help.
I have a 1995 850 turbo wagon with ECC. I just replaced both my blower motor and blower motor resistor (the dealership I take my car to told me they were both bad, and I decided to fix them myself to save some money), and now when I start my car either the fan is off even when I adjust the climate control or it's on full blast no matter what I do. It's off more often though.
Before I put everything back together I turned the car on a few times to see if the blower would work and it was stuck on high the whole time, after I put everything back together it stopped being on everytime, but it still turns on sometimes, but not when I use any of the switches. It also doesn't seem to matter where the switches are set before I turn the car on.
What else could be wrong? Can the ECC unit in the dash burn out because of a bad resistor or blower motor? I took the unit out of the dash and looked inside and didn't see anything that was obviously wrong, but I have no idea what I should look for.
I'm anxious to fix this as quickly as possible, I live in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan and even though the weather is nice right now winter is just around the corner and it could start snowing any day. I'd like to have heat in my car before the first snow. If anyone has suggestions please don't hesitate.
Thanks.
