I recently was blessed with a 1995 850 GLT (the original owner bought a 2004 XC90 T6, and basically gave me this car) that is in grest condition -but only one problem -IT IS AN AUTOMATIC!! I can't stand automatics! This is the first automatic I have had in almost 20 years!

I love the 850, but need a stick. What options do I have?

Can a tansmission swap be done ( take out auto and put in a 5 speed) and how costly would it be?

Our should I sell it and buy (or maybe do a trade) a similar with a 5-speed.

I would even be willing to trade for a similar 850 with a 5-speed!

 

You will be better off selling or trading.It will cost you alot to convert it to manual.The parts will be hard to find and costly.

 

I agree. 5-speeds for Volvos are not that popular though, at least in the US, so you may pay a little more for the same model/year. Yeah, it's silly rational, but that's what I've seen. Overall, doing a swap is hardly worth it unless you get everything for pretty much free, and you know a great mechanic that has some free time. Kinda the same thing like trying to make a N/A car a turbo, more cost-effective to buy it pre-made.

I can't imagine why u want a manual drive, i have an automatic and whatever other problems it may have , the transmission is ok until now.
