Need a new Cat.
I need a new cat but I do not have $800 does anyone know of a replacement that will not brake the bank. I called a locate shop and the told me he would not do it(cut out the old one and put a cheap replacement in) "it would set off the engine codes and cost gas mileage in half. But if I wanted to do it bring it on in.

Yes. I just went through this on my 97 R. I ordered three from fcpgroton and had to return each one, so don't go there. I got one at Advance Auto and it didn't work either. Finally I went to Midas or Meineke, can't remember which, and had them cut my old oneout and weld a new on in using my pipes and O2 sensors. Cost less than $300 which was cheaper than all the other ones I tried. That was about four months ago and have had not problems.

I am also dealing with the potential having to get a new cat. I keep setting a code (can't remember as I am on work trip to Eastern Oregon) that basically says there is a problem with my cat, Bank 1 is out of range.
Now this either means my cat is bad (plugged) or I have a O2 sensor not reading correctly. Not really sure how to isolate this and make the correct decision.
Boxpin, my '96 is a CA car in that it passes CA emissions and I know that FCP Groton and the others sells cats for the other states, but not a CA compliant car. Might be interested in your cat, if that is what I need.
PM me for details. Ray
