Need new head unit recommendation
Hey all --
I still have the stock tape radio in my '94 850. I'd like to update it to something with CD/MP3/USB. Any recommendations? I'd preferably like something that I could pick up at Best Buy, etc.
I'm not extremely picky on highest quality sound. I just need those more modern features.
Thanks

By the lack of responses at basically midnight Id say that people were either sleeping or getting ready to go to sleep, then getting up and going to work or school..
I wouldnt buy a head unit from best buy if someone was buying it for me. They are over priced and dont know **** about what they are selling.
If I were you id go to crutchfield, but they are online, and they might not respond fast enough
As far as brand id go with pioneer, or alpine.

LOL, yea, some people think this is CHAT SUPPORT. I usually say "all the smart people are in the bed by 10 and at work till 6".
I have a Pioneer in my car. It was installed when I got it. Try to find a system that supports an 8 speaker system. You have to 2 front, 4 mids, and 2 in the rear. Mine does not have a usb or head phone jack so I'm looking to upgrade as well.
If you plan to do the install yourself you may want to figure out what you want then purchase it from anywhere, including eBay.
If you do a forum search "850 stereo" you may see a few things that have been done in the past.

If I could steal matty's thunder for a moment, crutchfield has a sale on kenwood decks right now, and I will be ordering this one: Kenwood DDX418 DVD receiver at Crutchfield.com
For a couple reasons; 1. iPod connectivity is a must, and if it doesn't work seamlessly I'm not interested. 2. A stereo, for me, must suite the inside of the car, and be as close to the stock stereo color as possible. 3. The single DIN with a cubby hole looks like sh*t imho, I'm guessing thats why you specified double DIN.

After some deliberation, I have changed my mind. I think this double din head unit is better:

And the reason is simple. I have a head unit currently in my Jetta, which is on the auction block, that has an iPod cable coming out its rear. I routed this to inside my arm rest, and it works very nicely for not cluttering the cabin. I want to do the same thing in my 850 wagon, but mount the ipod and connector in the useless rear cupholder:
Anyone know if its been tried already?
