NEED SOME HELP: a few important questions
wats up everyone im a new member and i need some help! i currently own a 97 volvo 850 (non turbo) with 159,000 miles and i have a few problems with it:
1. at around 150k i noticed the ABS and traction control light came on. it would stay on for a few seconds then would shut off. BUT prolly for the last 2 months it has stayed on and not gone off. i havent been able to test the ABS yet since we have not had any bad weather. should i get this checked out or what? any info would help.
2. my passenger side light is cracked. it looks like its just the lens but would i have to replace the entire light, and if so where would be the cheapest place to find a replacement?
3. lastly, for some odd reason when i start up my car, the engine will automatically rev to 1500rpm and then fall back to 0. im not stepping on the gas at all. im just curious why it does this and if there should be any concern
thanks, hopefully you can help

RE: NEED SOME HELP: a few important questions
Welcome to the forum (I'm rather new as well).
If the RPM drops to zero and the engine is still running, the RPM signal sensor is probably faulty, or tach mechanism may need repair. 850's fast idle kicks in during very cold weather and doesn't last as long as other mfgs' cars. Let the engine idle for a couple of minutes and wait driving away until the idle stabilizes. In freezing days in Chicago, I let the engine idle as long as 7 minutes or until the temp gauge begins to rise. I might be just wasting fuel and polluting the air, but I don't feel comfortable driving away when the engine is ice-cold.
The ABS module for Volvo's are really fragile. Mine is also shot and it works only 1 out of 10 times. I cleaned all wheel sensors, serrations and connectors and the ABS still fails 9 out of 10 times. There seems to be some ABS module repair services, you could try them:
http://www.autoecu.com./
http://home.earthlink.net/~vicrocha/
You could also try a junkyard for the lens, though 850's are rather rare at those places.
Good luck,
JPN
