i just wanted to say hi to all im a new 1997 850 glt owner and absolutly love the car. up to this point ive spent most of my automotive efforts working on my other love (older porsches) and was thrilled to see there was also a volvo forum for those of us who love cars. i know very little about volvos so i wont be able to contribute much to the tech forums, but im very interested in learning more about volvo in general and how to work on them.

RE: new 850 owner
Greetings from Narita, Japan.
Welcome to the forum, we all love cars, especially, well, Volvos.
Working on Volvos is generally straightforward, except there are some procedures that have to be strictlyfollowed to do the jobs right.
The following thread may be of some use for general maintenance ideas; I keep updating it:

Whenever replacing parts, insist on OEM parts, EXCEPT for the A/C evaporator in which case aftermarket parts are better. Many of us here like to use FCP Groton of Connecticut:

BTW, the first person replied to your post, Moderator Tech, is the top-dog of this forum so when no one has a solution to your problems, look for Tech.
Lastly, I suggest that you buy a Haynes service manual, and if the car did not have the owner's manual, I would get that one too. I bought mine at:

I wish you the best with your Volvo.
