Default new engine block? or rebuild it?

Is there anywhere I can buy a rebuilt engine block? Would it be reasonably comparable in price to doing it myself?

I am located in Canada, Toronto Montreal area.

Grigalid: When you say "rebuilt engine block" im not sure what you are talking about. Generally engine blocks are not "rebuilt"

i think that a junk yard would be an excellent source for you to find a block, if that is in fact what you need.

If you need a complete motor, then it's gonna depend on a lot of things - your budget, your mechanical ability, the time frame you need to have it done in, etc... If you have the mechanical ability, then I say go for the rebuild yourself. Volvo engines are not the most complex out there...in fact i think they are pretty easy. If you dont have the ability (or tools, or space) then i would ask around to some machine shops that specialize in engine building and select one. having a motor rebuilt is still gonna be cheaper than getting another car.

I meant an engine, not just the block. Sorry about that.

I think I am going to go used, I have a contact that is reliable, 500$ for a stripped motor.

I would rebuild but I have an old BMW engine I want to start and don't have the time or space, a swap will be hard enough!.

Thanks again!
