Default New guy with a couple of questions

Hey all, hello! I recently bought a 1995 850 GLT and love it! It runs and drives great but I wasn't able to get much history on the car so I figured just to be safe I'd start out with getting the timing belt replaced. Any other tips on what to look for and check out? I want to keep theis car on the road for as long as possible. It currently has 148,000 miles on it and yes I got a smokin deal.

Thanks in advance for any help given.

Hiya

I got a nice deal on a 110k miles glt. My timing belt was done only a short while before i got it.

I've got slight wurring coming from my front wheels, think it might be my wheel bearings. The sound changes pitch depending on the direction the car is leaning!

Something to look out for i guess on urs.

Probably need (some of these may not be necessary on volvos)

Timing belt, pulleys and tensioners checked/replaced
Fan belt (think volvo call it the serpentine belt), pulleys and tensioners checked/replaced
Oil changed
Oil filter changed
Air filter changed
Fuel filter changed
If it's an auto get the auto fluid changed
All other fluids checked and changed/topped up
Brake disks (I think americans call them rotors) checked/replaced
Brake pads checked/replaced
Tires checked for deformities / cracks / under legal limit tread

Also check your jack works properly, the brace is also there and the spare wheel is in ok condition (my jack gave way on me yesterday while I was taking the front wheel off)

That's all I can think of for the moment - Volvo dealers in the UK do something called a Summer check for £30 which checks most of this plus they also check air con etc iirc.

Hope you enjoy your car.

EGR system, and PCV system both need regular maintenance.
Remove the airbox, disassemble, remove flap and controls that allow hot air in, and block off warm air entrance, and enjoy - with no bad side effects.
Also, plugs are sensitive to gap, make sure gap is NOT wider than it should be.
Plug wires sold by Carquest, (housebrand) are original Bougicord wires. $50 + - Number them before changing.
Cap, and rotor.
Some people suggest O2 sensors - I'm not sold on it yet, but.....

When the dealership replaces the timing belt, a silver sticker with date and mileage is applied to the side of the black plastic ECU cover.

Thanks for the info guys. I'm having the timing belt replaced and a few other small things done right away. Love the car, want to keep it on the road for a long time to come.
