Installing OEM top engine mount
Anybody out there replace the top engine mount with the OEM bushing? I'm not talking about the poly one from IPD so please don't tell me how I should use that one instead. Has anyone made a home-made press to get the OEM bushing into the mount? I am planning on using some pipe flanges and a long bolt as a pressing tool. Any tips or advice would be helpful.
Thanks!
Thanks!
I did install it-at first, I made a slight error in positioning the mount -there is a "dot' on the housing, and the arrow on the mount shoul point to that mark -up and slightly back. Do search and you should be able to find a post where someone gave very detailed decription of the install.
Ther is one of the posts describing it: http://www.brickboard.com/AWD/index.htm?id=938875

Thanks for the post. I have read similar ones so I am going to attempt this with the pipe flanges, fender washers and threaded bolt. I also have the firewall mount and the lower front side mount near the crankshaft. Hopefully all will go smoothly!
Hsve you done the top mount using the home-made press method? I bet you have the nice Volvo press tool to do these at the shop. Any tipe on getting the bushing lined up when using the press?
That's a good idea!
Is it OK to change the torque rod and firewall bushings first, then wait a couple of weeks and then change the lower side and lower transmission mounts? Do I have to do all four at the same time?

Thanks tech. I still have to buy the transmission mount but I wanted to do the torque rod and firewall this weekend anyway. Then when I get the transmission mount I'll put that in at the same time as I do the front side mount. I went out and got some offset box wrenches and and adjustable head ratchet to make it go nice and smooth. I sure hope my pipe-flange press works on the torque rod!
Thanks again.
Thanks again.
I finished the torque rod and firewall mounts last night. It really wasn't too bad and the difference is very noticeable. The press worked great and once I sawed the old mount out, the new one went in pretty easily, much easier than I expected. The hardest part of the whole thing is sawing the old bushing out because you have to be so careful not to scratch the metal mount. I went slow and just kind of chipped away at it didn't leave a scratch. Some tips:
Put a rag under the mount to catch the rubber bits that you're sawing out.
Take a picture of the old bushing so you know how to install the new one.
Be careful with the press, towards the end it gets very tough to turn and you don't want to strip anything. Use a 3/8" bolt or the thickest one you can get through the bushing.
Thanks again for all the advice!
