Default New R bumper

got the new R bumper
it had a Platinum, I was lucky enough to have my friend hit the curb and get a new one. I hate to say it because it is so minor, but it really does make me feel better to know the correct bumper is there.

Cool, you can update your garage. Also, I have never seen a white R wagon before. I bet there are very few of those out there.

Thanks for all the positive words guys
we have been very happy with this car
I didn't know that white ones were so rare, it is easy to keep clean as well

I am not a big fan of the rear wing, I dont even know if it came with one. I know the guy that bought it new, and I seem to remember him saying that he ordered it without the spoiler.

next up is a suspension rebuilt. want to go for as comfortable a ride as possible, and to replace all that needs to be replaced with suspension on an 850 with 140,000 miles. Any suggestions?

Thanks,
Chet

Thats a beauty.

Is that water on your front bumper top or is it time for some Showroom New?

Yeah, the plastic is stained
you would suggest "showroom new" to clean it up?
I will look into it

thanks,
Chet

Thumbs up

Beautiful car! Your car looks identical to mine. I picked up a new, from Volvo, R from spoiler a few months ago and had it painted as the original is cracked from the previous owner. I am going to install it very soon, at the same time when I put in the new radiator and A/C condensor. Right now I'm trying to figure out my electrical issues. I haven't been able to drive it for almost two weeks.

I am going to try and fabricate a front lisence plate mount so I don't have to drill holds in my spoiler. It looks so clean with no holes!!

I, too will be doing a suspension rebuild soon as mine is all original at 130k. I am going to keep the original springs, but get Bilstein Touring shocks and struts, HD front strut tops and all new strut mounts, etc.

nice, good luck with your project, they are roomy cars, that get decent mileage, are comfortable (mostly), and handle well for a wagon. It sounds like you are doing it right.
we are thinking of going with the stock sachs shocks/struts because of comfort and cost. When you say etc, what do you mean? I know that FCP Grotten sells a kit but I have heard bad things about some of the components in that kit. Anyone have experience?

Thanks,
Chet

1+ With Boxpin on the bumper dye. It will make the trim like new.

As for the suspension, the R's came with sport suspension so you may want to change to a tourning suspension. It will be a little bit more comfortable. Also, your wheels make your ride a little rough with the low profile tires. You may want to pick up a set of 16" wheels and tires. That will soften up the ride some as well.

yeah, we have thought about putting some turbo wheels on.
I just like the Volans so much. and we are planning on the touring shocks/struts with new tower bearings. I thought while I was at it, I would replace any bushings that need replacement, and whatever else you guys would suggest.

thanks,
Chet

Chet: it's a shame that you live so far away, as we have cars that look essentially identical (but I have a wing) except mine is black. same wheels, even. it'd make for some cool nose to nose pictures.

Thanks. I have been enjoying this car very much. It's my 2nd 850R. The first was a red sedan with EXTREMELY low mileage. But, honeslty, I hate red vehicles and really wanted a wagon so I sold it four years ago (after owning it for about 6 months) and began the wagon search. I finally came across my car last April with a blown headgasket for dirt cheap. Fixed that issue, and have been driving it for about a year slowly fixing previous owners neglect. I work in a shop, so it makes it much easier to take care of these things (needless to say, I do all of my own work).

When I say "etc." I mean, replace control arms, tie rods, strut tops, and basically anything else that is original in the suspension that would be worn out after 130k.

My car came with Goodyear F1 tires that have a carbon fibre reinforced sidewall. GREAT tire, very sticky, great in the rain...but MAN do they ride rough! I am considering replacing them just because they are so stiff. But there is so much tread left, I am just going to drive the crap out of them so I can justify replacing them.

I am going to get all OEM stuff. Nothing aftermarket (besides the Bilsteins). I want parts that are going to last as well as the originals.

great! I had heard that the FCP Groton control arms had some issues with durability so I will go OEM. I need to update my profile, we live in Bend, OR now. Big change from Covina, born and raised in Arcadia, CA. Thanks for the list of stuff that I will need to replace. I am going to get on that in the coming weeks.
if anyone makes there way to Bend, I would be happy to meet up with you.

Thanks,
Chet
