Default NEWBIE!- I have a CIRCLE part with 2 hoses under battery that is LAYING THERE!

Ok so I know not much about my 1997 Volvo 850 GLT. I've only put maybe 20 miles TOPS on it. I have a few problems. The steering wheel "creaks" when turning the steering wheel each turn the slightest. Not a power steering grind, more of a suspension issue. I popped the hood and notice when I turn the steering wheel the top (mounts?) turn as well. Suspension seems to be fine except the annoying feel and noise from the steering wheel.

BUT then I removed the battery to replace it and underneath it I saw a part, its circular with TWO hoses, one on each side of the circle, and it's just LAYING there. #1. What is it? #2. Where does it go?

Any help would be great due to limited income to fix these problems. Thanks!

Ted

That's your cruise control module. It should be bolted to the bottom of the battery tray.

thanks! I feel a lot better that its something more minor and I'll get it bolted back up there, somehow. Then......I'll have to figure out what is up with my suspension/steering wheel vibration. I am thinking strut mounts but I may very well be wrong. Thanks again!

The strut mounts have bearing plates in them and are supposed to turn with the wheels. That being said, the strut mounts can go bad - and they aren't cheap to replace, either. FCP can get you decent replacements, or you can buy the heavy duty replacements from IPD.

same issue I'm having, I'll be replacing mine soon, figured the car is worth 3k and I paid 1500 for it so im willing to put money into parts for it. Let me know how your strut replacement went, I'll be changing mine in the near future and wanna know the hassles ill be encountering.
