Default Does anyone have a turbo back exhaust laying around?

Hello,

I have an '96 850R and I am looking to upgrade the exhaust system. Does anyone have a used turbo back exhaust that they are done with or maybe knows someone who has one just sitting in their garage.

I don't want to pay the $500-$1,000 for a new one because that would be stupid on a $2600 car.

Please let me know.

Yes I do.

It would be a lot to get shipped I am thinking. PM me

....scratch that, mine is a turbo back stock T-5R. Sounds like you are looking for aftermarket.

I heard the OBX one will set off the check engine because it has no cat in it.

I am looking for an aftermarket one, but thanks.

How friendly are you with the local muffler shop? Have them bend up a 3 inch system that matches the bends of your old system. And you can buy high flow 3 inch cats for less than $100 from ebay or Summit. If you're handy and they're helpful, you can have a new system for $200 bucks or so.

FYI you bought the wrong car to mod if you wanted to mod cheaply... Just saying.

A local muffler shop should be able to mandrel bent you a 3" downpipe to a Hi-Flow CAT to either a 2.5" or 3" mandrel bent catback system with a free flowing muffler for under $800. Also depends on what material you have them use too. Aluminized Steel or SS...

People have used the OBX system with success!

When yo buy the OBX dont you get both downpipes? The Angled flange and the conical?? That means one would be left with a spare downpipe for the flange they did not use. ????

Does the OBX system set off the check engine light? I heard that it would if there was no catalytic converter.

Can I just bolt on the OBX system and plug in all of the sensors and everything will be fine?

If you get a rear o2 code for not having a cat there is an easy fix for like $10.00.

what's the easy fix for $10, please let me know.

Do you really think the OBX is the way to go, what are everyone's opinions? I would appreciate the feedback.

Alot of people have the OBX system and like it.
The fix is to get 2 spark plug non-foulers and install them by the rear O2 sensor to pull the sensor out of the direct exhaust flow.

I did that to mine when I installed my system.

I have an OBX, fit like a glove. I am going to get another one for my wagon when I get to that point.

It comes with two DP's, a straight and angled, no conical. However, since you have an R, it will be a straight housing so you don't have to worry about. For those with conical housings you have to find a different housing and swap them like I did with mine.

What exactly do you mean by putting two spark plug non foulers in front of the O2 sensor. Do you mean drill a hole right in front of the O2 sensor and just screw in a spark plug in.

You screw both of the non foulers together then screw that into the rear o2 sensor hole and screw the O2 into the non foulers. But you have to drill one of the non foulers out some so the O2 fits into it.

Oh, OK, thanks. I'm thinking about buying that OBX system, do you have any other tips for installing or even if there other places than Ebay to get a better deal on one.

You can't really get a better deal on an exhaust. Anything lower in price than the OBX system I would start to question the quality. Just make sure to jack the car up and use jack stands since you will most likely be spending quite a bit of time under the car. Chances are your exhaust will also be too rusty to come out as it went in and you'll probably have to hack it up, so just watch out for that. When I did my exhaust I sawzalled right after the DP and once I got all the way through the DP fell onto my wrist and a sharp corner went in and hit my wrist bone, so just keep your eyes open.

I may well put a turbo- back system on my car when the stock system goes. My question is this... what would be a possible negative effect if I added a high- flow cat to the OBX system. I won't delete a cat from a car that's supposed to have one, but I also don't want to spend $1,000 for the IPD system.

Why would there be a negative effect? The OBX system comes with a straight piece that's meant for a cat to be added.
