Default Newbie from MNL Philippines

Hi good day folks

am a newbie from Manila Philippines

found this forums while searching over the net!

i had the chance to own a 1997 850 GLE matched with automatic tranny.

im using the car for two days now and ive noticed that after a cold start when i shift to drive (D) its stuck on 3rd gear every single time but sometimes when i go to a full stop shifting from D to N then D it would go to its normal shifting but mostly its on limp mode.

is there any quick fix that you can share?

thanks for your input.

cheers!

Hi and welcome to the forum.

Does the car have any stored codes?

Add the heater core to this list and you should be fine.

Welcome to the forum

You might have a PNP switch that's acting up and causing the shifting problem. If you turn the ignition on without starting the car and "row" through the gears from end to end a number of times it might help. Not suggesting you slam it from end to end but slow enough to feel the detent for each gear.

Not saying it is the PNP, just a guess it might be. Do you have a check engine light on or the flashing up arrow coming on when it's acting up ??
