When my mechanic was backing up the car I noted that back-up lightswere not on, then he had to go forward and back, and this second time when he put gear in reverse, lights were on.
Next day my wife was backing the car, and lights were not on.

^I know one of the problems a faulty/broken PNP switch will do is that it will cause you to start in 3rd gear...Which I cannot imagine is good for the transmission.

Well, I am going to get another car in 8-10 months, and wonder if the PNP is going to last until then.

 

The worse thing that will happen with it besides it starting off in 3rd gear is it won't allow the starter to turn over.

If the reverse lights are the only sign it might last till you get the new car.
