Default OBDII scanners

Which OBDII scanner do you recommend?
I've looked at several and liked the look of the
ScanGauge II. But it's a little pricy...
Any thoughts....

Default RE: OBDII scanners

Greetings from Chicagoland.

This reply may not be apt for your question, but I'll do my best.

OBD-2 for cars made before 1996 (mid 1995?) use different type of scanner than the current ones, so check that the scanner you want to buy is suitable for your car.

Versatility may be a good suggestion, such as those that have replaceable cartridge/software.

If I were to buy one myself, I would choose name brands that are made in the U.S, Japan, Germany, etc...

I would also choose the one with LCD backlight. Not that I'll be using it in the dark all the time, but for me an LCD without backlight is unacceptable.

Shop around and buy the one that you like.

Regards,

JPN

I bought one for around $70 at Auto Zone. It reads the codes and resets the CEL on both my 97 and 98 Volvo's. I was not willing to spend more than that. It will not reset the Service light though.
