I just put a new pcv system and I was hooking all the new hoses up and the hose that hooks to the air intake on the right side of the turbo is covered in oil is that from the pcv vavle not working and how do you tell that it does not work. I also need a good place to buy intercoolers hoses any ideas who has the best price Thanks jared

I assume you changed all of the PCV system. There really is no PCV Valve per se.

For the other hoses you can look at OEM, Samco, or Stylin Motors. The Samco and Stylin products are silicone.

Unsure how the Volvo works but atleast previously in my Rx-8 the pcv would recirculate any fumes be it gas or oil back into the Throttle body. Could be over the years that the oil fumes slowly clocked up some of your tubes. Unsure if any Volvo owners have installed Catch Cans but that is what most of us 8 owners did. Its amazing at what a see through one collects and your able to see.

Yes. Some people do install catch cans. If you had oil on your PTC system than it was probably a fairly clogged PCV system that had backed oil all the way up to there. There could be another reason why that would be caked in oil so don't take my word for it.

I don't know, but if you changed you whole PCV system and all new hoses and cleaned your PTC, then everything should be fine. If you run it for a while and your finding that there's still oil building up back there, then I would look further into it. But chances are it was just your clogged PCV.

If you are talking about the oil on the outside of the PTC, that seems to just happen with age. It is more oily dirt then anything else, at least on my car.

The PTC system is the spot that the vacuum line connects too on the cold side of the air intake after the box and right before the turbo.

Try going over my 1st & 2nd replies in the following thread see if you've missed some tune-up items that are overdue.

https://volvoforums.com/forum/volvo-850-16/new-volvo-850-owners-read-important-thread-also-applies-s-v70s-9266/

I don't even know how many different versions of PCV kits were available. This one could be answered most accurately by FCP Groton.
