Default Peely Roof Vinyl

95 850 wagon: The front to back molding strips (on the roof) are peeling and
horrible, horrible! Any suggestions on a fix? Possible to replace? Clean off and paint?
Maybe simply running some vinyl tape over the aluminum the complete length?
Thanks in advance!! Dave

Dave: i pulled mine off completely and sanded them down, then masked them off and painted them with spray on bedliner. If you search the forum for roof rails, you'll be able to see them.

ibi- Thanks for the note. Sounds like you know what I'm talking about! Pulling them off was my first thought and the best way to do it, does the bedliner stuff last a long time? I thought regular black paint would fade in a year and I'd be doing it all over again. How much interior did you have to remove? I'd rather not have to take all of the headliner out, that sounds like a real hassle. Dave

you dont have to touch the headliner at all. The molding strips just pull right out - just pull up on them.

Change them to the S70 style. Here are a few links:

ibi- Sounds like these peely rails are a common problem. Sounds easy to get em off, I'll do it! I thought they were bolted on from inside the car. painting will be fine, not gonna drop the coin on different rails. Dave

There is very few things that I dislike about my 850. One of those things was how much water comes in the car when the window is open just a little if it's raining or wet outside. The S70 rails have a 1/2 inch water catch on them. Awsome!

Well I'm thinking about a scouting trip to my local U Pull It this weekend- I'll see what I can score. Maybe I'll see a set of S70 rails, give it a whirl. Dave

No pics? I think I paid $15 or $20 for the guides I got from the yard.

I'm not wild about that either. Theres no WAY that the paint is gonna stick to the (flexible) rubber for long. Plus it's not quite a match in color.

To each their own I guess.

Default yellow trim

It should be black, only black, always black- God I'm so damn rigid. I fight with my wife about her wanting to paint ceilings something other than white. It just shouldn't happen! Dave
