rspi -- rails look awesome. did you ever get/use a parts image? this looked simpler in the pictures. now i have fully assembled rails from a salvage yard with just a few screws and some molding and i'm worried i can't do the job. seeking instructions everywhere! lots of great posts on forum. afraid slow learner over here. thanks.

hi ibified. any tips or close up pics on the installation? i'm worried about stripping the molding because it looks like there's additional adhesive (or something) down near the windshield in addition to clips below -- so not sure whether I need to be prepared with anything other than my leatherman and torx. As to the torx, I have a straight driver but looks to me like that the holes are at such an angle (the bars are entirely intact) that it might not work? Thanks for any help.

Not sure what the concern is but the window/roof trim simply pulls off with clips, no kind of sealant. The V/S trim has a rain catching lip on them along the glass. What I did last week was brab the base of the trim with my fingers and just pulled up on it and it started coming off and worked my way back. Be careful not to bend the trim. After you install the roof rails you can cut the trip to fit, cut small chunks out of it, enough to let the trim go under the rail about 1/2 inch. You can set the roof rails on the roof, them mark the trim where it will be cut and go from there.
As for the rails, there are simply 2 or 3 screws on each side. When you pull the trim up you will see the holes where the rails are screwed into. They have those metal clip looking washers that are on the screws so try to get those on right, I think they also hold the screw covers on after all is secure. The bottom of the rails have some plastic hooks that the trim is suppose to fit into as a guide for the trim that I didn't find very useful. Anyway, if you need more help let me know, I can dig up some photos or go take some from somewhere.

Thank you RSPI! Great advice. Turns out worries were for nothing. Took a couple hours -- all during my 2yo's nap time! Could cut around the edges of upper windshield trim to make it a perfect fit but they're great (I was also able to get 2000 V70 molding with the rack from the yard and it's not quite flush with the windshield -- think the V70 molding with the rain catching lip is a bit wider -- so i need to clip that back just a bit). I love the rails. So easy. I would have never thought it would be so easy and pursued it without these posts. Thank you!
Now for finding cross bars inexpensively . . . then a turtle . . .
I have silver (I guess used to be black?) moldings lying around now if anyone around NYC needs them . . . especially for any roof rack gear trades or advice.
