Poor fuel mileage
I bought a '97 850 T-5 with106,000 miles on it about 1.5 years ago. Since buying it, I have not been able to get better than about 17.5 miles per gallon in city driving even with the transmission in Economy. On along highway trip it struggled up to about 21 mpg, a tenth of a mpg at a time over more than 8 hours of driving. Is this normal or do I have some thing wrong. I have changed thespark plugs, plug cables, air filter etc. but situation is still the same.
BTW, Tech thanks for the warning about breaking the dashwhile removing the instrument cluster, but lifting just the driver's side.I didn't see your warning till I was done...YIKES. However, I didn't break thedash pad, but I developed several cracks in the black plastic lip just below the windshield where the dash slipsunder.Everything else working well so far.

RE: Poor fuel mileage
Here is a link with pictures on how to change it. Basically the test to see if the PCV is bad is to pull the dip stick out with the engine running, give it some gas and see if smoke comes out the dip stick hole.
