Power antenna
The antenna of my 1997 850 sedan stopped working. It had been mess up by the previous owner. The plug from the radio has 3 wires But the plug from the antenna has 2 wires connected and 1 wire open. Is it normal? Can I replace it with an aftermarket one. I found the Pyle antennafrom buy.comecosts only 29.99.
Be careful getting the mast from fcpgroto. They sent me the wrong size and I messed up my antenae to the point where I had to replace the whole mechanism. Found one on e-bay for less than $100.
What do you mean when you say it's messed up?... Can you hear the motor spinning? Is there no power to it? As mentioned above, the mast can be replaced, you don't necessarily need to replace the whole thing. Replacing the mast is easy.
The motor is not working. The plug from the antenna seems to have 3 wires I guess. Now one wire is cut and left open connecting to nowhere.
IfI buy an OEM antenna, this plug will be taken care. If I buy a aftermarket antenna (that is 1/10 of the cost of the OEM one) I will reuse this plug. Can someone tell me what are these 3 wires?

It seems like you really don't want to reuse that motor, which is fine. However, I'd be more inclined to reconnect that wire and see if that's all that's stopping the motor from working. And if that's the case, just replace the mast.
Check the fuse just for the heck of it.See attached pics.
The manual indicates '96, but I believe the '97 model is the same.
If you only need to replace the mast, see if you can call either FCP Groton or eEuroparts to see if they have the EXACT match for '97. Since Jim had a bad luck at FCP Groton (they are usually good but the shipping dept might have screwed up), I'll only list the URL for eEuro:

And shame on your friend[8D].

When they sent me the wrong one we tried to get it to work and that's when WE mess up the setup to where the correct mast would not even fit. When I called fcpgroton to tell them they sent me the correct mast at no charge and appologized. Somebody had put the wrong ones in the bag. Now I have the mast, but I did buy a whole new antanea on e-bay from Volvo of Orange County for $92.00.Their phone number is 1-866-414-0242. It's an oem antenae.
