Default Power Antenna

My power antenna is stuck in the "up" position on my 1999 S70. The local dealer has quoted several hundred dollars to replace the entire antenna.
I am considering trying to replace the antenna myself. Is there anyway to tell if just the mast needs replacing or the entire unit? I hear the motor working when I turn the
radio off but nothing is happening.

Is this a difficult job, or could a slightly handy person attempt this repair? Any recommendations on a parts supplier?

Thanks for the help!

Can you move the mast up and down by hand?
If so the mast is broke internally.
If that is the case you will have to remove the motor and remove one cover to get all the old pieces out.
Then install a new mast and done.

Unfortunately no, the mast will not move by hand. It is completely stuck in the up position. When turning the radio on or off I can hear the
motor working, but the mast does not move at all.

Thanks for the reply.

Then remove the mast first. Then the motor. I will bet you will still have to open it up and remove pieces.

To remove the mast remove the 5/8 16MM nut and pull the mast out.
Then get under the panel in the trunk and remove the 10MM screw and unplug and the motor will come out.
Then remove the nut and plastic cover.
