Power steering fluid question
I have been reading various old threads about our power steering units and the fluid that should go in them, etc.
I have seen one that keeps saying, use only ATF. What is ATF? I was at the store looking for this ATF and I did find it, but it is Transmission fluid. I'm suppose to put Transmission fluid in my power steering compartment?
I just want to make sure I am reading this and understanding correctly before I make a very bad decision.
My power steering started making that humming/grinding noise during last winter. I was being a bad girl and putting power steering fluid in the system. It only makes sense. It works fine for a couple of weeks and then grinds again. Now it hums even when I'm not turing the wheel.
Need to know quickly as I need to put something in the system. Volvo is getting thirsty

Thank you Tech!
I did go and buy the ATF, and a turkey baster and did what the others have said. By the time I got home, the steering was much smoother....
I really appreciate you getting back to me so quickly! This site ROCKS!!
