Default power steering pump

have any of you replaced the power steering pump, was told thats the source of my noise, I ordered just the pump and not the reservoir, mechanic said the resovior just pops off with a crow bar, but haynes says it needs a special tool?. I looked for a write up but havent found one.

i paid next to nothing for the fluid so i would try it...the worst you'll have to replace the pump...on the upside you save money.

my steering use to drone rather than grind...so i went for the cheaper option and changing the fluid took about 15 minutes really easy job.

They are a pain to swap the pulleys on. You need a special tool. I have broken many tools trying to get the pulleys off. The reservoir is held on with clips that can only be removed when the pulley is off.

fluid didnt work, gotta be the bearing, so I shoulda bought it with the resovoir? I'm guessing your saying a gear pulley wouldnt work for the pulley, and that has to be removed in order to be able to remove resovoir to put on new one. When this is done its going to a volvo dealship/maintance so they can look at why SRS light is on, I was told after 10 yrs the powder goes bad in airbags and light will come on to replace, is this true?

If you do it right with the puller you can get the pulley off. Most likely the pump you ordered does not have the pulley on it either.

There could be many things wrong in the SRS. The codes are the first place to start.
