Proud new owner of a 95' 850 Turbo!
Hey guys and gals!
I hope its ok to make a thread like this I just wanted to say hi and introduce myself.
I am the proud owner of a black on black 95' 850 turbo sedan. This is my first European vehicle and I have very limited hands on experience with them aside from a little work on my brothers 83 VW scirroco and some time in an air cooled VW shop.
I do however have a ton of car experience in imports and some in domestic. Already had the 240SX with SR20, 93 RX-7, and still own a 75 Datsun Z with built series 1 Chevy 350 small block.
Well, I need to get busy on the tune up basics like fluids, timing belt, and eventually turbo. I am sure I can find most answers I need by searching but is there anything strange I need to be aware of?
Such as strange corrosion caused by the wrong fluids or particular sensors or hoses that fail at around 145,000 miles? Maybe a particularly good set of plugs or oil for the motor and good tranny fluid?
Anyway, I am still buzzing about the new car because I have wanted one of these for quite some time. Hope this thread doesn't **** anyone off.

welcome aboard! You're gonna love it here.
Let me tell you first off that the "euro vehicle" thing is nothing to lose sleep over - these cars are NOT hard to work on. I'll be the first to say that sometimes things are done a little differently on these cars, but its definitely not HARDER.
Start off by changing fluids: oil (use synthetic), coolant, trans fluid (as was mentioned, drain and fill, dont flush)....and as for what fluids to use....oil: ask 10 different people and you'll get 11 different answers. As for trans fluid or coolant, you pretty much run standard stuff. Personally, I use Castrol Edge for oil, Prestone universal coolant, and Castrol Dextron VI in the transmission.
Definitely do the timing belt if it hasnt been done recently, and you MAY want to do the PCV system as well. Other things to do are to clean the MAF, replace plugs, wires, distributor cap and rotor...
You mentioned turbo with things you need to "get to" so I guess I'm wondering what you feel like you need to do? DO you want to upgrade to a bigger turbo? That's all fine and good, but get the other stuff (whats called a "stage zero" done first. you NEVER want to start throwing more power at a car thats not running right to begin with. Well, not unless you dont want to be driving the car anymore, anyway.
As you get more familiar with the car, you'll figure out other questions to ask, and you'll get all the help you need here.

I use Valvoline semi-synthetic high mileage oil in mine, either 10W30 or 10W40. I use only OEM Volvo Turbo plugs and OEM wires, cap and rotor. Look online at fcpgroton.com for good deal on parts.
One thing that caught my eye in you post is the cars you have owned. Particularly the 93 Mazda RX7. I test drove one once and decided not to buy it because I was afraid I would kill myself. That was one fast car!

Strange things to look out for, hmmmmmmmmmm, I would say a few of the regulars here. LOL
If you plan to keep the car longer than 5 years, I would suggest purchasing the tensioner, rollers and idler for your first t-belt change. If they don't look and feel near new, go ahead and change them. If you think they are good, keep them for the next change.
Welcome!!! Hope you find all the help you need here.
