Question about synthetic and non-synthetic mileage

I spoke to my brother about it last night and he has driven/worked on/owned HOT RODS (evidently there is a difference between Hot Rods and Sports Cars), and he said the same thing, you can go longer between oil changes because it is a much higher quality of oil, lubricates better, is cleaner, and simply does not need the attention. He said that some people skip filter changes between oil changes, and just about told me to switch and I could go about 50% longer between changes. From his knowledge, it would really help extend the life of your motor because it reduces wear by lubricating better. He told me that I should switch on my next change especially since oil runs through my my turbo.
He mentioned that some people play it safe and keep the same change schedule along with the filter. I think I'm going to switch and go on the 5,000 mile change w/filter. I just don't drive that hard.

I run full synthetic Castrol 5/30 Synthec here in Florida. Because of the ambient heat factor and also the trubo, Also change my Oil at 3,500 miles. I have read too many stories of people runnin Synthetic and changing the oil at 5k and still having sludge. IMO, Oil is such an inexpensive thing to change out that I do it at the lower interval to ensure I don't have issues later down the road... Or Change the oil sooner or buy a motor later! Good Luck!

I think it is just a matter of personal preference. When I was using it in my Grand Prix, I changed it every 3,000 miles just because I don't like to take chances. I think I started using it at around 70,000 miles and I had the valve covers off at around 170,000 miles and the heads looked pretty much brand new with no sludge or anything. It also ran flawlessly with no internal engine problems, and I also beat the crap out of that car. I would red line it at least two or three times a day and the car never complained.
I think with a turbo engine it would be better to change it around 3500-4000 miles max.
