Default RE: Radiator Replacement (Non Garage Situation)

Dropped by a Volvo Dealer today and the Parts guy there suggested that the Rad that is currently in my Car is another aftermarket Rad(I don't know for sure) He was saying this because from his recollection the oil line fittings on the rad were silver in colour and not brass and that the OEM fittings are removed by an allen wrench inserted in the fitting and not what mine is which looks to havea 19 or 21mm blot pattern to screw it to the rad. The Thread on my fitting is a non tapered 15mm metric fine thread, and the new rad has a 1/4 FPT fitting.

On another note I went back to NAPA where i bout the rad and the guy called Spectra Premium who imports/makes these rads and they they said that 94 850's have a different type of rad that is not available through them, personally I think that reason is BS, basically they said if if the 850 is newer than July 94 they don't have one, yet on the box it says it fits a 850 and V70?? I know there are 2 generations of motors in 94 850's and i have the newer of the 2(wider timing belt)

I'm going to take a run up to Hamiltons Garage in Guelph tomorrow and see it they're open, they're a huge Volvo Wrecker, hopefully I'll get some luck there.

Do you have the radiator home with you that you can take pics? (Old one)
This way I can see exactly what it looks like.

As far as I know they were the same from 94-98.

But the radiator should have already had the fittings made into it.

I started this thread off by saying that i was an IDIOT, well I'm just going to have to keep that trend up and keep that title. just then I was putting my Mitsubishi back in the garage and I had to move my bike and I saw a little baggie on the floor. In that baggie 4 brand new fittings for my new rad, i'm such a dummy they had to have fell out of the box for the rad when i had iot in the garage. I think my next trip should be a success.

OK went down last Tuesday Night.... this time I Left a lot later and it was dark when I got down there, so with helf from my flashlight holding friend I did the swap in less than 90 minutes in a dark parking lot, not too shabby!!

I managed to beeak off the rad bolt that was siezed and i put in a a 3" 1/4" nut and bolt, it worked perfect!

for some reason the low coolant light is on, i have to look at the switch in the expansion tank, I may have done something to it. It goes out when i unplug it tho so it may be in the switch

HI Mike,
Glad to see another VOLVO fan around my town....TORONTO. I was under my volvo for much of the time over this 'Thanks Giving' weekend doing the Rear Main Seal and it was quite a experience. I still love these machines.

Yeah that's quite the job, I did the front at the time i did the timing belt on mine but I wasn't going to attempt the rear even though I had the seal, for some reason I don't like pulling trannies when working outside!! haha

I still love these too!! have you owned volvos for long?

i guess later this week I'm going to take the plates of the 850 and put them on the newly acquired V70R, so i guess the 850 era is ending for me

Nice looking ride. I would love one but cannot do it.
Just reading back on this now on the V70R, does this mean you wouldn't have one?? is there something wrong with these cars?
