Go to the dealer, they'll come out and pull the radio, write down some numbers off the tag on the top, and look it up for you. It should take just a couple minutes, and they won't (shouldn't) charge you anything.

The last 4 radios I've had checked have all been some combination of the numbers 1,2,4, and 6. Like 6421, 6142, 4261, etc. Probably just an odd coincidence.

it is part of vin number backwords near the end 4 #s. go to the veh/vin number try putting in your 4th number from the end and the 5th from end then 6th from the end and your last code number would be the 7th number from the last number if your number is BF2S8928739234561 - you would use 4329.

You also may want to check the label on the outside of the Radio..sometimes people will right the code there in case they forget it...not a very good place to put it..but it works. It should be a 4 digit number. If not on the label..somewhere on the radio with a magic marker. Good Luck and Happy Motoring !!!

In all the cars for which I had the original owner manual, the dealer had written the code in the section that shows the operational controls for the radio. If you have your manual, you might look there too.

Some dealers will give you the code if you all them with your vin. That's assuming, of course, it's the original radio for that car. If not, you can get it from the serial number off the head unit. Again you need to give that number to the dealer.

I am going to check mine tonight to see if it's really part of the vin. I have never heard that before.

I see you got it going...excellent.

Here is some pointers for future readers.....

The code is not part of the VIN. The code is in a database based on your VIN. Some radios have been replaced and using the VIN will no longer work. But, the radio has a serial number on it and it can be traced that way too.

Either way, the dealer has your code. If they are nice, you get it for free. If not, you pay. The best thing to do is simply call them and tell them you replaced your battery and now your radio is saying CODE. It is so easy for them to get your code they will probably want to simply help you for customer service points. Just have your VIN -and- radio serial number ready for when they ask for it.

As stated, some people have their code written on the radio...I do. If it gets stolen what do you care if you have the code written on it or not...its gone. Some people write it in their owners manual and there is actually a card that might be in your documentation that has the code on it. Search first, then get your VIN and Serial then call the dealership.

I just check my codes against my vin and there is no correlation whatsoever.
