Default Radio Problem...help, Thanks!

1997 Turbo Wagon.

My radio is only partially working:

1. Poor AM reception
2. When I select FM all I get is static, even if it is on a known station.
Then, after 5 minutes or so that station will come in fine. But...after
a few more minutes it goes out again.

3. No power issues with the radio though....

Thanks!!!!

ps..yes, I have the radio code...

Pull the radio out of the slot and check the connections. Make sure both antenna's are plugged in all the way. If you see no connection problem, you likely have a bad head. Get a replacement. I have one but it is not the high powered unit. It has the cassette and cd player.

Ok, will do. Thanks...

A. I will spray some contact cleaner on the connections as well.

B. When you said "bad head", do you mean the entire radio unit?

C. If I buy a used radio I will try to find an exact replacement. What
about the code I need? Will the used one come with a code?

Thanks!

I have a radio issue ... when I turn on the rear window defogger, it creates plenty of loud static.

A: I don't think contact cleaner will help.

B. Yes the entire thing is bad.

C. If you get a replacement radio, do get one that has the code. Also, you don't have to get an EXACT replacement, most of the radios in the mid to late 90's will work. Just make sure you get one with the features you want, i.e., cassette, CD, etc.
The one we put in our S70 was out of a S90. The faceplate did not match the dash so we swapped the faceplate and it works great.

Sounds like you have a problem with a ground or some kind of static supressor. Check www.iPdusa.com and FCP for radio parts to see if you can find something there about static problems. Or just do a static search.

This is a wagon right? Correct me if I am wrong here but arent the wagon glass antennas amplified? There is power going to a module at the rear quarter glass. I would look into that a bit more and see if that power has been lost. Other than that I agree the tuner sounds bad.
