Rear Speakers keep dying
I have the premium audio with the four front and four rear speakers, recently all four rear speakers cut out at the same time. If I move the fader to the middle, the front ones work, and if I move it to the back, silence. At first they would cut out for a few seconds every hour, but now they've started to cut out for fifteen to twenty minutes at a time. I'm only keeping the car for a few more months so do not want to upgrade the stereo but I'm selling it to a friend so I kinda want to fix it. And I've checked the connections at the back of the radio and the rear shelf speakers....

It doesn't sound like it's the fader itself that is causing the problem so it's likely the radios amp, internal. I'd go with Rspi's advice and either buy a used head and replace yours or just man up and tell the guy there's a problem with the back speakers cutting out and it's part of his new used cars "personality"
Just depends on you and him and how important those rear speakers are. Will you get more fixing it for him ??

Geez, thanks guys it hadn't even occurred to me that it was a problem with the head unit... duh. Went to the junkyard today and got a refurbished one for $19, and got the code when I got home. On the way to work it worked perfect, then on the way back, of course, the sound stopped working alltogether. Think it overheated after not being used in a while. Gonna let it cool overnight and see.
