So my exhaust bit the dust the other day. Just spontaneously decided to erode and crack pretty much everywhere. Yes there were warning signs I ignored lol. Anyways I need to replace it as cheaply as possible ASAP. Any recommendations on buying the whole cat back system as a kit? I’m considering just putting a straight pipe in as it’s old enough to not have to pass emissions anymore. Far from the best option I know but certainly the most economic.

 

check prices at the usual Volvo friendly sites - FCP Euro, EEuroparts, IPD USA, AZ Authaus etc to see prices for aftermarket brands like Starla. You can also check out Tasca Parts for genuine Volvo. keep in mind there's various sections and different flange styles by model/year so best inspect where your cracks are before ordering.

 

Cut out cat and run straight pipe all the way back and weld in a muffler at the tip. All under 85$

If you want a gain, delete the muffler and go w.some sort of performance muffler.

A cat quiets things down a bunch and so does small diameter pipe.

 

On an 850, the entire exhaust system from cat back is one piece. Walker is $167 at rockatuo and they are pretty cheap. Rockauto lists an even cheaper option that I've never heard of. No picture.

Probably the alternative to be considered would be ask a muffler shop to bend you one up. there's not much bending to it. You'll just have to ask them what they would charge. It doesn't do any good to ask on the internet, you have to go in person for that.
