replacing '95 850 antenna?
i temporarily forgot how to lower my antenna and went through a mechanized car wash with it up and it bent. i tried to fix it, stupidly, by bending it back immediately, and it broke. now the pieces of the shaft are loose and sliding up and down and the white cord is showing in many sections. the only problem is the black **** on top, i cant get it off. ive tried twisting it but im clueless.

That does not come off. To replace the mast you have to remove the nut and take the mast assembly out.
Then install one that looks like in the link.

For the mast only you need to do what I said take the 5/8 nut off that the mast goes through. The nut that tightens against the body.
Then turn the key on and pull the mast itself out.
If you want to remove the entire assembly yes you have to get behind the gray panel. Then there is a 10MM screw under the motor. But you still need to remove the 5/8 nut on the top to get it all out.

Yes, first:
You unscrew the bolt on the BASE of the antenna on the outside of the car.
THEN:
You have to unscrew the motor inside of the trunk in order to replace the whole antenna. Once that is back in, you have to feed the new plastic band into the motor CAREFULLY, have someone turn on and of the car while youre feeding it so the motor will pull it in automatically. Its not a difficult process, it will take you like 25 minutes to get it in. (unless youre standing in the cold freezing your nuts off)
