Default Replacing a Cap, Rotar,Spark Plugs & Wires on 97 850??

Last week my 97 Volvo 850 started shaking & taking along time to accelerate I had it taken to my local Monroe the guy said I needed a tune up & he would call me back once he got the prices on the parts. Days later he says my estimate is $591.91 thats for a new cap & rotar spark plugs & wires & some 3 step fuel efficency check they done there. I went right over to Advanced Auto parts & the total for the parts was $180 more like $160.00 Thing that kills me is I said can I just get the cap & rotar plugs & wires done? He said yea for $420.00 am I crazy?

Anyway is there anyone who can walk me through changing the plugs & wires? I've seen it done before I'm pretty sure its a simple job. Any ideas on replacing the cap & rotar? It was also suggested I replace the fuel filter. I just want to get my 850 running again I'm tired of catchin the bus to work and I want to get this done this weekend HELP!

Buy the parts and do it yourself. Make sure to use OEM. The prices they told you is ridiculous.

Yeah, get the parts yourself. It's pretty easy to do on your own. Search the posts - here and at MVS - for plenty of guides, tips and pics.

For that price, you can get all the parts, brand new tools AND a case of beer to enjoy when you're done with the work!

you can get OEM plugs and wires from FCP or IPD for about the same price you'd pay at auto zone.

What about replacing the Cap & Rotar? And the fuel Filter? any ideas on how to do that?

I am planning on replacing the plugs & wires tomorrow thanks for the info. From what you all are saying I should use OEM brand parts?

Your at the right place, just start searching around. Fuel filter really has nothing to do with power. It might degrade it if its never been changed.

Plugs require a socket and a wrench, then hand tighten. Careful not to crossthread
Cap and rotor already been mentioned.

Sounds like someone needs to invest in the good book. This is what you need, be sure to buy it later
