Default Replacing Odometer

I looked at replacing my odometer at the dealership and it looks to be about 450, including resetting to the current shown mileage. Is this in line? Can the gear that controls the motor be fixed?

I saw someone post something about the carfax report on a vehicle, if the odometer goes out, how would it show up on the carfax. Does the dealer have to report?

Thanks!

Usually when the odometer fails it's because of a gear. Here's a site that sells replacement gears you can install yourself if you are interested.

Thanks! I would like to see if I can do it. I have read some of the things on the dash can be pretty intricute... anything to be overly cautious of?

I've never done it myself. Basically one side of the dash will have to be opened up and the cluster removed. Then you take apart the cluster to get to that gear that's broken. I'd change all the instrument bulbs while it's out. I don't think it's incredibly complicated, but it's tedious. If you go slow and use some finesse I think it's doable...

When you do it just be careful pulling up on the dash. Some tend to break a little peice off where the pad mounts into the black part of the dash.
