Default Retrieving radio code

I just bought 1997 850 estate and found that the dealer doesnt have the radio code for this. Although the radio is functional for now but I have to do PCV and other small repairs on it including cleaning of oxidised battery terminals. I was wondering if there is a way to retrieve the radio code before I unplug the battery or visit the dealer?

You can get the radio code from the dealer using the VIN or the serial number off the radio. I have never heard of a way to retrieve it. Some dealers will give you the code over the phone, other will not.

Hi guys my 97 850 radio has been asking for a code ever since i bought it early last year 96k miles. there are no dealers where i live, so i was thinking of buying a new radio set sc710 on ebay. getting it shipped is a problem. or i think i can go to convert locally to kenwoods dvd player will it fit?

Jim KW is correct on calling a dealer. You can look up online the nearest dealer to you and call their service dept. and see what they can do. However, try sliding the radio out of the dash VIA the 2 tabs on the side an just maybe you have the code on there... Some people write theirs on there in case they loose the number. I have read on here a few people pulling it out and being on there. When I had to replace my AC control unit, I had to slide mine out, and low and behold someone had written it. Try it, it just takes a minute of your time. U never know!

Just keep calling dealer until you find one that will give you the code. Make sure you have the serial number. Tell them the vin and the serial on the radio. If you don't have any luck PM me with the vin and serial number and I will try and get it from the dealership I go to. They know me pretty well over there. Not sure they will give it to me but they might.

Well, I came accross a post where it says that you can turn your radio ON for 5-10 minutes by keeping the #6 button depressed while turning it ON and it will stay on for some time before it goes back to code status again...... Yes, the after market 'kenwood' will fit nice in there and all i would suggest you to is to get the aftermarket harness in order to avoid damage to original wiring.
