Default Reverse lights on on my 96 850 do not work

I recently bought this reverse light switch

http://www.eeuroparts.com/Main/PartD...spx?id=9442728

Was going to try to replace it but I can't find where it is. Can you help me locate where this switch is located?

Also, I've been reading some of the threads on the reverse light problem, and it seems like it can also be the Neutral Safety Switch also known PNP Switch.

I not bought the PNP Switch because the reverse light switch is a cheaper fix if it works.

Here is the PNP Switch link.

Do you know which of these will fix my problem? Not much of a mechanic but trying to save a few bucks on some of these repairs. Anybody's help is much appreciated.

One of the tell tale signs of your PnP switch going is the lack of reverse lights. Then other things follow. If your car 5 pseed or auto? I belive the reverse switch you have is for 5 speed and i think it's on the transmission it self. The PnP is on an auto gear box and also is on the transmission. Nor mally you have to remove the airbox to get to it.

Default 850 96 Reverse lights

Thanks for the info. I am just figuring out that the Reverse Light Switch is for manual transmission. I have an auto tranny which means I will need to replace the PNP Switch, which as pointed out by some of the folks on this forum, needs be replaced.

Here is the site that has instructions on how to replace your PNP Switch

http://volvospeed.com/Repair/pnpswitch.php

Are these the best instructions for a beginner? This will be the most complex part I ever attempt to replace. Any important pointers I should know about before I start? Once again, thanks again for your replies.

That's not a bad one. You should be fine using it.

Its your PNP. I just fixed mine, gah that didn't take too long. I don't know if I aligned it right, but oh well! Seems to work great!
