My wife just bought a 96 Volvo 850 and it comes with the SC 710, but the rear speakers don't work. She wants a CD player so I would like to know if I can just pull out the 710 and pop in an 815. Are the plugs the same? Thanks.

 

Rear as in rear doors or D pillar? Are any speakers there? Did you take off the speaker grille and checked?

All SC should work in the 850 plug&play, SC 900 and 901 need an external amplifier all others can work without it.

 

Yes the plugs are the same. You can also get decks from the 960, S90, S40, etc. The faceplates of the S70 & V70 are a different color and they have an antenna booster wire that you won't use but yes, the radios will swap right in.

I usually write the code in the passenger side sun visor flap so it's super handy.

 

Thank you for your reply! Rear as in behind the back seats. I did remove the grills and the wires are ok. Was told that problem is common and means the head unit is gone. If I set the fader to rear and turn the volume up all the way, I can hear the rear spkrs a little. Since I want to replace the 710 with an 815, hopefully they will work(?)

 

i swapped a head unit and it didn't make mine work. its probably the speakers

 

Someone likely blew them. Rare because those rear deck speakers rock!

 

i agree, all eight speakers work in my 94 and its great
