Default Seat belt locked - Wagon back seat

After folding my back seat down in my '95 850 Wagon the belt seems to be locked - meaning it's very tight. I can't get the seat belt to extend anymore and it's tough to even get the seat to lock back into it's up-right place - I really have to force back into place because the seat belt is resisting it.

Anyone experience this problem? What should I do to fix this?

Thanks for the help.

Oh yes. It's a real pain in the Butt isn't it. Easy to fix though. Unbolt the seatbelt on the floor, put the seat back up,pull the belt out and let it retract, then put the bolt back in.I have had to do it several times on my 98 V70 and I'm assuming the 850 is the same way.

Awesome, i'll try it this weekend and let you know. Is the bolt pretty easy to get to? I haven't taken a look at it - will I see it when I pull the seat bottom up to fold the seat down?

Ok, found the bolt - folded the bottom seat cushion forward and then just pulled the side of the seat back away just a bit - and found the large bolt - i'm going to give it a shot tonight.

Wow - problem solved.

I can't believe I waited so long to fix this. Probably been broken like that for a year.

Kept telling everyone in the backseat - quit yer complainin', you don't need a seatbelt.

Was saying to myself "Naa...don't ask them about something as stupid as that, just take in to Volvo". Glad I didn't. One bolt, easiest thing to get to (besides the keyhole) and 5 minutes later.... PROBLEM SOLVED!!

Thanks a heap!! Now my Volvo really is safe.

It's really a poor design to allow that to happen when you fold down the seat. Glad you got it fixed. Told you it was easy.

I know this thread is kind of old...

But is there a more permanent fix for this? I have been taking that bolt out a couple times a week for a year now.

I have one rear seat that won't fold down and another that won't fold back up once it is down

Interesting.

Replacing the seatbelt unit itself?

Someone said if you pull the belt out before you fold the seat down... I haven't ever remembered to do it though....

What if it does not retract?

You say "... and let it retract:" But it does not retract.
