Help! Broken interior door latches, can't find replacements...
Hi all, the title pretty much sums it up. In my 1996 model 850, the driver's interior latch failed and then the front passenger's failed no more than 3 weeks later. My mechanic said the replacement, part # 9152255 is unobtainable through his usual suppliers. Any suggestions on where I could find the part? I'm hesitant to go to a junk yard because, chances are, it's some plastic in the part that failed and any part that old will be likely to fail, too. I'm tired of having to lower the window and yank awkwardly on the exterior door handle from the inside toward the outside to open the door I'm an old man I'm not getting any younger...
Thanks for your reply! It's looking hopeful
. I called them, spoke with Melvin. He asked me what the problem was. He said I don't need that part 9152255 "left front door latch lock actuator", available for $85, all I need is two bushings for $6.50 each. That makes sense because it appears that actuator works fine: turning the key locks and unlocks all the doors.
He also told me I don't need to pay my mechanic at least $140 to take the door panel off and find the trouble, I can do it myself, it's not that hard. Saving at least $140 would be nice...
I should be getting the bushing in a few days. We shall see...
Thanks again for the tip! I'm hoping it works out.

Sorry for the delay in replying, I'm just seeing your post for the first time, now. And, unfortunately, I have nothing to report. I got the parts but I haven't gotten around to trying to do the repair. It's not a good situation, though: now, 3 out of the 4 interior door latches don't work and, last summer, I almost got locked in the car when I got in it without the key and no way to lower the power windows. Thank god that 4th door would still open from the inside...
Have you taken the door panels off to diagnose the problem? If not, I'd take off the panel for the door that is used the least (but doesn't work). I imagine you'll be able to figure out the nature of the problem. Take lots of pictures and post some here. It will be a great help to all of us with old 850s. That should be your first step before buying parts. But if the latch still works from the outside, it should not be anything major.
Let us know.
