Default Should I replace my PCV system?

My car has not had its usual power recently. About a month ago I noticed some black smoke and around the same time, I noticed that my exhaust smelled like rotten eggs (possible catalytic converter issues). Anyway, I broke down two days ago and my turbo oil trap hose was broken http://www.fcpgroton.com/product-exe...category_id/63 I noticed that FCP Groton has the entire kit. However, I don’t know my engine serial number to buy the correct kit if necessary. Last night I went into sport mode to overtake a truck and the car hesitated for a moment. Could this also be PCV-related? Would my VIN help in determining which kit to buy or could I clean my current PCV system. Also, would you guys recommend a universal catalytic converter or should I stay clear from those?

I didn't need my serial number when I got my PCV kit. I just got the one for a 95 turbo.

The FCPgroton site has two different PCV kits for a '95 model. I've taken time to critique the pictures and they are different. Maybe you just got lucky and picked the right one. I'm getting ready to order mine but I don't know where to find the serial number. It wants the serial number of your engine, not the vin of your car. Anyone know where to find this #?

I have not ordered mine as yet as I don't know the serial number or where to find it either. I replaced my turbo oil trap hose with a similar hose and want to use the proper hose soon

I just looked and didn't even notice that the kits were by serial number of the engine. I just thought one was more expensive and bought the cheaper of the two. One of the elbows on the turbo intake line did not fit and I used the old one since it was in good shape, so maybe I didn't get the right kit. Not sure. But I got the one that costs $118, not the one that costs $134.

Is there a reason to replace the system vs. just cleaning the crap out of everything? Can you just replace the hoses and clean everything else up with some carburetor cleaner or gas? The FCP Groton kit is about $150 shipped (for a 94 Turbo), which I would rather not spend if I can just clean things up and replace hoses / gaskets for $20.

I might be doing this too as I have been having some power issues and think mine is crap. The way I figure it is most of the job is labor time. Even if you are doing it yourself for the cost of the new parts it is worth not having to do it over again soon. I have read that it takes anywhere from one hour to 4 hours. Let me know if it fixes your power issue.

Good luck
