Default similar cars to the 850?

The 850 is the only volvo i really know about. I decided that its not for me. Its getting a little on the old side and trying to find one that hasnt been abused for a reasonable price is not likely, not to mention the high km due to age.

What other cars/ volvo models are just as fast if not faster with the same cruising/touring/luxury appeal i love.

my list is;

comfortable smooth ride
fast, but nothing crazy. volvo t5 standards is plenty
reliable
looks- luxury
better mpg than 850
2004 or newer preferably
can handle snow.

under $6k

Why not go to a Volvo dealer and try out some of their used vehicles so you know how it looks and feels and then you'll know what newer model YOU like. Then it's a matter of searching for one you like the price of, there on the lot, craigslist, Ebay, etc.

I would look for S60R or maybe the two door model C70. I made the switch to BMW though because I didn't like any of the newer Volvos's near as much as the 850R. Under $6k though I would keep looking for a decent 850R.

personally, Im not sure I would drive any of the models newer than the 850....but in my heart I am a 740 man. I like the old school looks and tank-like build.
If I had to get a newer one, and wanted some speed Id look at the S60R. But I doubt a good one will be cheap. 4wd+300hp+luxury doenst come cheap.

the pre-2001 V70 cross country wagon is the only other one that really grabs me. In black, with a turbo and AWD its just sweet. But they are not know for having the best AWD system, not durablity wise and repairs can be costly. If that car had a bullet proof driveline, Id have one for sure.

for me, the body designs after the v70 and s70 stopped looking like a volvo. Not that the newer ones are ugly, just no longer unique. The "BOX" shape is part of the draw for me.
But then, Ive owned 4 740's, 2 850's and also have a '06 scion XB...The Toaster!

Well, if any one lives in the Hamilton area and doesn't mind helping me find a 850/s70, there is a free case of beer waiting for you.

Thanks for the suggestions. I wouldnt mind the s60/80 but it might be out of my budget. I dont mind spending more money as long as its worth it, i dont want a 5k+ project car.

'96/'97 Jaguar XJ6 SWB. These two years are virtually bullet proof. Only woes are sagging headliners, and cheap plastic cup holders. Best value for $ 4/6k for looks, performance; and reliability.
