Smoke????
Talking to a guy about buying a 94 850 turbo. He's said its blowing blue smoke, that would indicate oil right? He then said he changed the plugs and it didnt smoke for about 40 miles. Any ideas where it would be leaking? He seems to think from the turbo. Also ABS light on (common), pulling left when giving it gas, and check engine light for the knock sensor. Are these easy fixes or sould I steer clear? Asking 1100.00
Blue smoke is not good. Means that it is burning oil which probably means the engine needs an overhaul, i.e. new piston rings. But $1100 is not a bad price for a 94 850 Turbo is everything else is in good shape and you need to replace the motor. I would think you could put another motor in the car for less than $1500. Not sure about the fact that it didn't smoke for 40 miles after new plugs though?
If you buying any car for $1100 you have to expect to put more money into it to make a realiable car. General rule of thumb is anything less than around $3,000 and you are taking a risk on a car. You should expect to pay $3,000 or more to get a dependable car.

So, ask the guy to see if he ever serviced the PCV components. The 850 does not come with traditional PCV valve set-up; it comes as oil-trap system. The new PCV kit is about $135+shipping and if it can solve the smoke problem then the engine can last quite a bit more. Either way, as Jim said it may be a good buy for $1100, I would test drive & have a technician inspect it to see if there are more obvious problems.

FCP Groton has renewed their site, I liked the older one better. They now offer free shipping for orders over $150 within the U.S.
