Smoke Blowing from Engine
I was driving my 850 R down the road yesterday and I kept smelling burning oil, which very rarely happens. I kinda ignore it for a second and then I look in my rear view mirror and i see smoke blowing everywhere. I pull over immediately and I check my muffler but no smoke was blowing out so I look at my hood and smoke is pouring out of it. When I looked under the hood it looked like the smoke was coming from near the turbo but not straight from it like a little in front of it. I was wondering if anybody would know what this might be. This is the second time it happened first time it was a couple of days after I got the oil changed so I thought they screwed it up, lol.
If the smoke was coming around the turbocharger, it might have been coming from somewhere between the exhaust manifold & the turbine inlet of the turbo. Visually check the connections around there (manifold gasket, hose clamps, etc...). It could also have been from oil return on the turbocharger; there is one gasket & one sealing ring for the return line, and usually the bottom sealing ring is known to go south, though it shouldn't cause much smoking. Or, the shop might have spilled some oil when they added it.
BTW, when was the last time the PCV components were serviced?
