smoking turbo (can't be good)
it's all set, I drove it to the gas station today, ragged it a little bit after checking the compression. apparently it just needed to work itself out. the compression ran these numbers cylinders 1-5....149,150,155,155,150...seems like pretty good compression for a car with 208K on it. Thanks a ton for the help guys
I suggest a leak down test, a compression test can give false results. You can have good compression and have a cracked piston, a leakdown test is the tell all.
the seals in the turbo may be shot though, alot of the previous K series turbos were poorly engineered. The oil feed would supply lubrication for the turbocharger, at high temps the oil would increase in temp and start to foam and cake up the journals of the center cartridge. This leads to the seals going out and even worse, shaft play of the turbine shaft, causing some to eventually even brake. Volvo now uses a center turbo section that has a self contained, self lubricated bearings and is also water cooled to increase reliability of the turbocharger.

Those engines VERY VERY rairly will have a damaged piston unless if was overheated till the point of Locking up.
I have seen these engines with Valves burnt so bad you can't make out it was a Valve.
No damage whatsoever to the pistons.
