sound at 15mph
Hey-
I just bought a 94 850. I really like it. But, it has a couple of noises, the strangest one happens in these conditions:
1. The first time it passes 15 mph after I start it up
2. usually in 2nd gear
3. sounds like something engaging under the hood
4. almost feels like it stumbles a little bit
Doesn't sound too crucial, but it is a little strange. I hope I'm just being stupid and it's something easy. Thanks for your time.

Is it more of a clunk or a whine or a scrapping?Your upper torque mount might be bad.The upper torque mount is located on the top of the engine and goes to the body.Sometimes the metal insert brakes the weld and makes noises like a taping noise.
Thanks for the help Tech--
The sound is unique to any car sound I've dealt with.
It sounds kind of like a ssssssshhhhunk but it happens very quickly <1second
It ONLY happens the FIRST time I pass 15 or 16 mph after starting the car and drive away.
It happens cold or warm
It seems to only happen in 2nd gear, But, in first gear you wouldn't be able to hear it over the engine (its that quiet), I also haven't been able to hear it any better with the window open.
I'm thinking it might be something engaging--fan? PS? I'm stumped though. I'm just as curious to see if it happens to other Volvos. it might just be a Volvo thing.
Thanks again

Pay close attnetion next time it happens and see if you can feel it in the brake pedal. If you can it is the abs performing its test to make sure there is no faults in the system.
