Default Speedometer fault.

Recently the speedo on my 1996 850 T5 has decided, on occasion, to stop working. The problem is easily sorted by just stopping and restarting the engine. Can anyone suggest what the root cause of the problem might be......Thanks.

does the odometer continue to count when the speedo drops to zero? I can send you a used cluster from an 850T (was used in my 95 850T) to play with. Odometer gear needs to be replaced, unsure if the LED display still works... Message me if interested. Nominal fee for shipping+handling :-) Swapping clusters takes less than an hour (8 screws then you can jack the left side of the dash cover to access ) Could be the cluster, could be a connection, could be a speed sensor or the ABS board.

Default Thanks.

I've never looked if the odometer continues to work, i've always just restarted the engind at the first red traffic light, which cures the fault. Next time I notice the it I'll check and get back to you.

Just had the fault again and this time noticed that when the speedo fails to work, the mechanical odometer stops counting, but the digital trip meter continues to count. On restarting the engine the speedo starts and both meters begin to function.
