Default Stock radio issue

Just acquired a 96 850 wagon. It has the stock radio with am/fm and cassette. Right now the radio lights up and says "OFF" on the display and when the power button is pressed the display turns off and says nothing. Also pressing any of the FM AM or inserting a cassette does not yield results.

Has anyone encountered this issue before? Also is it possible to get another radio from the junkyard to replace this one without it locking out? (If it does lock out is it possible to get the combination # from the dealer)

Thanks for your help

Andy

Sounds like battery was disconnected, resetting your radio. You need to enter in a code for it. Should be in your owner's manual somewhere, probably handwritten. If not, then you'll need to get the code from a dealership.

You are not going to be able to get the code to take on the head unit until it says code again. To get it to say code again, you need to leave the radio in the car and on for at least 2 hours. Once it says code again, you can enter the code.

Take a chance and pull the radio out and look at the top to see if the code is hand written there. The last owner of my car was nice enough to leave me it there....LOL

The code for my radio was hand written on the first page of the Service Manual; it's four digits.
