I wanted to remove the stock radio to my car and possibly put an Alpine head unit in. Apparently my dad thinks that Volvo uses the radio to enter codes into it for some reason. Is that true or is he just being an idiot and trying to stop me from getting a new head unit?

 

The stock Radio has a Code that activates it when the Battery dies.

You can install an Aftermarket no problem.
Also you can get the Code from the Dealer incase you install the Stock radio again later.

 

So, it's possible to intstall some type of ipod ready radio in a Volvo? For some reaosn I thought you couldn't mess with the audio, as the connections were too hard to change?

 

You should be able to find an Adaptor to plug into the Factory wires.

The cars you have a hard time with are S60,V70 and 1999 and up S80 The radio is a computer in the car.
